DES MOINES, Iowa – This week is going to be a big one when it comes to the Midwest High School Hockey League history books. Waterloo has set the stage with their 24th straight victory to begin the season which ties the all-time recorded mark set by the Omaha Lancers during the 1986-1987 season. The Warriors opportunity to break the record will come on Thursday when they travel to Mason City.
Now if you are looking for a division battle then look at the west division where the Des Moines Oak Leafs and Kansas City find only two points separating them. The Oak Leafs won all three of their meeting this weekend while Kansas City won the two-game weekend series with the Des Moines Capitals.
Alex Thompson (Ames) leads the varsity league in scoring with his 25 goals and 24 assists. Thompson scored five goals and added two assists this past weekend helping Ames sweep Lincoln. Kaleb Morley (Quad Cities) is tied with Thompson for the lead in goals scored while Michael Doheny (Des Moines Oak Leafs) is the league-leader with 28 assists, eight coming this past weekend.
Chance Kremer (Waterloo) has been one thing this season and that is consistent has he leads most of the statistical categories when it comes to goaltending. Kremer leads the league in wins (24), goals against average (1.38) and save percentage (.927) and is tied for the lead in shutouts (3) with Thomas Doheny (Des Moines Oak Leafs) and Kramer Vonville (Kansas City) .
