IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa men’s golfer Dan Holterhaus has been hired as an assistant coach. The announcement came today from head coach Mark Hankins.

Holterhaus was a member of the Hawkeye men’s golf team from 2003-08. He was a two-time team captain and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Holterhaus served on the Iowa Student Athlete Advisory Committee from 2005-08 and was the Iowa men’s golf team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree twice. Holterhaus was a senior at Iowa during Hankins’ first year as head coach.

“I am thrilled to be back at the University of Iowa and involved with the men's golf program,” Holterhaus said. “I am excited that coach Hankins has given me the opportunity to help our student-athletes and program move forward. My time as a student-athlete at Iowa was a positive experience and I hope to impact our student-athletes in the same way.”

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native played 106 career rounds as a Hawkeye and compiled a career stroke average of 75.3. He fired rounds of 68 on two occasions in his career. As a senior, Holterhaus tied for fifth at the Landfall Invitational and tied for 19th at the Big Ten Championships.

“I am excited to have Dan return to the Hawkeye men’s golf program as a member of my coaching staff,” Hankins said. “Dan was a great player at Iowa. He was a team captain and a top student-athlete while he was competing for the Hawkeyes. He has a broad background in golf, including experience with the American Junior Golf Association, teaching golf clinics, camps and employment at numerous clubs around Iowa. He is a great example for our current players, and is a great addition to our team.”

Holterhaus served as a Player Services Intern with the American Junior Golf Association in 2008. Since his time with the AJGA, he has held numerous roles in marketing, strategic planning and leadership.

Holterhaus graduated from the University of Iowa in 2007 with a B.B.A. in marketing.
