Hamilton Joins Morningside's 1000-Point Club

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Garth Hamilton, a 6-7 senior center from Lincoln, Neb., became the 23rd men’s basketball player in Morningside College history to amass 1,000 career points during the Mustangs’ 76-69 victory against Hastings College on Saturday in Hastings, Neb.

Hamilton finished with 10 points to raise his career total to an even 1,000 points. Hamilton also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Mustangs to a 32-30 advantage on the boards.

The surging Mustangs won their fourth game in a row and posted their sixth victory in the last seven games to finish the regular season with a record of 18-12. Morningside finished in a tie with Midland University for fourth place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings at 12-8.

Kevin Zoz scored 16 points to lead a group of four Morningside players in double figures. Danny Rudeen added 13 points, followed by Hamilton and Joel Haveman, each with 10. Storm Throne just missed twin figures with nine tallies.

Morningside led 36-32 at the intermission and enjoyed its biggest lead of the game when Zoz made a 3-pointer with 9:16 left in the game to put the Mustangs up by 13 points, 63-50.
