Men’s Golf Second at Competitive Oklahoma Christian Intercollegiate Meet
The Viking men's golf team, ranked second in the Golf World's NAIA men's golf rankings, shot 290 in the windy final round to finish behind Oklahoma Christian University for second place. Grand View's three-day total of 856 was only six shots behind Oklahoma Christian in the Oklahoma Christian Intercollegiate Tuesday at River Oaks Golf Club.
The Vikings shot rounds of 283-283 on the first two days to keep them within shouting distance of the host school. Oklahoma Christian is currently rated first in the NAIA, and the tournament featured seven of the top fifteen schools in the country.
Sophomore David Walter fired an opening round 69 to place him in a tie for first after day one. Walter followed his spectacular first round with rounds of 70 and 73 to finish in third place.
Senior Josh Manske struggled on day two, shooting a 76, but he rebounded strongly with a 70 on the final day to finish fifth.
Junior Mike Slavin finished the tournament in a tie for eighth place to give the Vikings three individual top-ten finishes.
Junior Aaron Ahrendsen was the final Viking in the top 20, shooting rounds of 72-74-74.
