Hannah Willms 5th in High Jump; Alex Gochenhour 10th in Heptathlon at IAAF Junior World Games

Moncton, Canada - Two of this past season best Iowa high school track and field athletes qualified and this week met the best junior athletes in the world at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada. Hannah Willms qualified for the finals in the high jump with leap of 5-09.25 on Saturday. Willms cleared all four of her attempts and tied three other with the top qualifying jump. On Sunday Willms best jump was 1.82 meters of 5-10 which was good for a fifth place finish overall. The Dike-New Hartford graduate will play volleyball at Iowa State in the fall.
Alex Gochenhour finished tenth in the Heptathlon where twenty-five of the worlds best junior athletes competed. Gochenhour will be a senior next year at Logan-Magnolia high school. Dafine Schippers of the Netherlands won the competition with 5,967 points. Gochenhour totaled 5,260 points.
