DAYTON, OH – Kernels starter Garrett Richards (8-4) picked up his eighth win of the season in an 8-1 Kernels win over the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field in Dayton on Thursday. Richards allowed just two hits and struck out eight over six innings of work.
 
The Kernels took the lead with a five run third inning, capped by Casey Haerther sixth home run of the season. Carlos Ramirez followed with a two run homer in the fourth, also his sixth of the season, as the Kernels pounded out 11 hits in the game. Matt Long went 2-3 with a double, triple and RBI and Terrell Alliman was 1-4 with a double and RBI.
 
Young-Il Jung, David Carpenter and Johnny Hellweg combined to strike out four and give up just one run over the final three innings in relief of Richards. Dayton starter Justin Walker (3-9) took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits over 4 IP. Chase Weems drove in Dayton’s only run on an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th to score Frank Pfister.
 
The Kernels and Dragons wrap up their three game series on Friday night at 6:00 pm from Fifth Third Field in Dayton.
