Cedar Rapids native Ryan Sweeney has highlight making week with Oakland
DES MOINES, Iowa - This was a pretty good week for Cedar Rapids native Ryan Sweeney, outfielder with the Oakland A's. Not only did he raise his average from .243 to .270 while hitting his first home run of the season, he scored six runs and made one of the highlight reel plays when he robbed Ian Kinsler of a home run and followed it up with another extra base robbery the next night against Seattle. In the minor leagues, Dallas Cawiezell, from Davenport is off to a solid start with Kingston, A-affiliate with the Cleveland Indians. Out of the bullpen Cawiezell has made 9 appearances with two saves and a 2.03 ERA. In just over thirteen innings of work he has posted 16 strikeoutsand has not allowed a run since his first appearance of the season. In his last 11-plus innings, Dallas has gave up just three hits and no earned runs. In the pitching rich Tampa Rays organization, Des Moines native Jeremy Hellickson has began this season once again with the same success he has accomplished in the past few years. Now with AA-Montgomery, Hellickson has won two of his three decisions in five starts with an sparkling ERA of 1.93. In 28 innings of work, Hellickson has allowed 18 hits while setting down 33 via the strikeout. Humboldt native, Brett Jensen continues his hot start with AA-Erie, affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. In 7 relief appearances, Jensen has 3 saves and picked up wins in his last two games. Jensen has yet too allow a run in nearly eight innings of work.
